Self-Love is it important

Self-love has been trending lately—and that’s a beautiful thing. But what does self-love really mean?
Self-love is choosing to care for your own well-being and happiness. It’s the quiet, everyday commitment to yourself: nourishing your body, practicing good hygiene, getting enough rest, moving your body, and setting healthy boundaries that protect your peace. Sometimes it’s a workout. Sometimes it’s a walk. And sometimes—like for me—it’s a calming swim that resets everything.
Self-love can also be found in the simple joys: reading a good book, watching a movie, or unplugging from social media long enough to hear your own thoughts again.
For me, self-love is creating with my hands—this is where Brandy’s Beauties began. I love learning, trying, and making homemade bread, custom seasonings, dehydrated foods, adult coloring, and even attempting to bring a struggling plant back to life at work. My green thumb is still a work in progress, but I’m choosing to keep showing up anyway. I also love making beaded pieces and exploring new designs—because creating reminds me that I’m capable of growth, patience, and beauty.
I’m inspired by the ways others practice self-love too. My niece’s family unplugs on Mondays, setting aside device-free time to reconnect with each other. My sister recharges by reading on her Kindle and treating herself to a mani-pedi—small moments that help her feel refreshed and cared for.
So, is self-love important? Absolutely. It’s essential. Just like on an airplane, you’re told to put on your own oxygen mask before helping anyone else—because you can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish. It’s how you stay strong enough to love others well, too.
What are some ways you practice self-love?
